Unhappiness comes from wanting — a desire for things that you lack. Reduce that wanting, and happiness will take its place.
Living well is what nature intends for us. Chasing a life of luxury is fool’s gold, however, and will only bring you anxiety and misery.
Bad things happen. Trouble befalls us. The only thing you can control sometimes is how you react. Choose to laugh!
Sometimes new opportunities can arrive from disaster. Sometimes good things can come from a shipwreck.
Follow the wisdom of the ancients, but not obsessively. Embrace new ideas as they come — there’s no monopoly on truth.
Don’t worry where the wisdom comes from, that’s not important. Truth comes from many places, and all that matters is that it’s the truth.
You don’t need clever words and logic to convince you to stop negative behaviors. Just look at the effects of your vices, and it will be clear that you’re already punishing yourself.
Don’t give unimportant tasks more importance than they deserve. Otherwise they’ll crowd out your day and throw your priorities out of sync.
